Every Recession Has a Silver and Green Lining

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands (PRWEB) August 5, 2009 -- Twelve months ago Tropical Imaging was in a predicament, it had outgrown its current rented space, but simply couldn't afford the high building costs being touted around the Turks and Caicos. Renting was even more expensive with limited inventory available at that time and high "strata" or maintenance fees attached to most new retail developments. Then came the recession, construction ground to a halt around the world and in the Turks and Caicos. New projects simply failed to materialize and existing projects started to wind down.

In late 2008 everything was "on hold" then Tropical Imaging sat down with a willing construction partner; Projetech Limited, whose experience is more often found building mega million condo developments and ultra high end villas. But times are tough and building is building and a deal was made.

What made this build attractive was that its green and potentially a "model" for future development in the Turks and Caicos Islands. In fact its the first ever building to be built in the TCI to internationally recognized "green build" standards. With a certification from the Green Globes organization underway, the building will have low energy usage thanks to efficient lighting, the use of sun tubes to bring natural light into the building and an ultra modern air conditioning system. A second phase is to reduce energy loss by "wrapping the building", preventing air leaks and installing reflective, argon filled windows and shades.

The final stage will be the proposed green power using a hybrid system of solar and wind.

Minimizing damage to local fauna during construction, drought tolerant vegetation for landscaping, grey water irrigation, bamboo flooring in areas of the studio and other eco-friendly features are all part of this "first of its kind" building in Turks and Caicos.

With construction already underway and a completion date set for December 2009, this small development of 3,500 sq ft, whilst not big in size it is hoped it will have a big impact.
